2009 ARVO Education course Reducing Sex and Gender Disparities in Eye Disease and Treatment
May 9 and 10, 2008:
Women’s Eye Health.org, in conjunction with Lions Clubs International Foundation, contributed to a second Radio Media Tour in honor of Mother’s Day, via communications company North American Network, Inc. WEH.org members Janine Smith and Ilene Gipson entertained questions from a number of talk show hosts regarding women’s eye health and the importance of appropriate eye examinations. There were 1,335 verified station and network affiliate airings, reaching approximately 2 million people.
May 5, 2005:
Women’s Eye Health.org, in conjunction with the Lions Eye Health Program, contributed to a Radio Media Tour in honor of Mother’s Day via communications company Ketchum, Inc. Debra Schaumberg, a member of WEH.org, entertained questions from a number of talk show hosts (each interview approximately 3 to 5 minutes in length) regarding women’s eye health and the importance of appropriate eye examinations. Approximately 600 radio stations and 12 million people were reached.
May 23, 2006:
Afternoon of Vision and Beauty
Women’s Eye Health.org hosted an AFTERNOON OF VISION AND BEAUTY, held at the studio of famed makeup artist David Nicholas.The event included a catered reception, a raffle for a free makeup session with David Nicholas, and a demonstration by David of the “Totally Touch Technique,” which he designed to help visually impaired women apply their own makeup.
April 25-28, 2004: At the annual meeting of the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology; Fort Lauderdale, FL:
- Sponsored an exhibit to disseminate educational materials on women’s eye health and inform meeting attendees about the mission of the Women’s Eye Health Task Force
- Co-organized a symposium entitled: “Sex-based Biology in Ocular Disease and Treatment”
Aug. 29-Sep 3, 2004: At the XVI International congress of Eye Research; Sydney, Australia
- Co-organized a symposium entitled: “Sex Differences in Ocular Surface Biology”
November 7, 2003: Organized the first international symposium on “Improving Women’s Eye Health: Strategies to Address the Greater Burden of Blindness Among Women,” held at the Harvard Club of Boston.
